Mayawa is the debut LP from Ripple Effect Band, an ensemble from Maningrida in Australia's Top End. Co-produced by band member Tara Rostron and longtime collaborator Jodie Kell, the album shares the band's stories as mothers, daughters, and sisters through energetic instrumentation and stunning vocal harmonies. They blend saltwater rock, pop and roots reggae influences, and sing in multiple languages including Ndjébbana, Na-kara, Burarra, Kunwinjku, and Kune, as well as English.

'Na-kalamandjarda', celebrates Country in the endangered Na-kara language and 'Cyclone' is an atmospheric recount of 2006's Cyclone Monica featuring Rachel Thomas' mother, Lena Djábbiba.

The poignant 'Loving and Caring', sung in Kune and English, addresses mental health through the metaphor of seasonal cycles. Tara Rostron explains, "Experiences with depression can transform into renewal and growth, much like how the environment rejuvenates after rain."
