"Please Don't Cry" is the fourth album from North Carolina's Rapsody. The title is an ironic one, as Rapsody encourages listeners to embrace their emotions: "Allow yourself to be human, allow yourself to feel. to grow from it."
Over the past few years, Rapsody wrote an astonishing 360 songs, initially preparing three albums simultaneously. "Please Don't Cry" is the distilled essence of this work. "I really took time and sat with myself and went through some healing things, some growing things, like mental ascension, spirituality," she shares.
With signature wordplay and delivery, Rapsody explores identity, relationships, trauma, and self-love, finding strength in vulnerability. Rapsody also grapples with the pressures and expectations placed upon her, while remaining a firm champion for her peers.
The production, crafted by various collaborators including Hit-Boy and BLK ODYSSY, complements Rapsody's varied flows. There's a weightier R&B influence, alongside gospel, reggae, G-Funk, and trap beats. Also featured on the 22-track opus are superstar collaborations with Phylicia Rashad, Erykah Badu, Lil Wayne, Alex Isley, Niko Brim, Baby Tate and others.
