Floodlights return with their third album, Underneath, an introspective work shaped by an extended period of travel. The five Melbourne musicians wrote much of the material while touring across the UK, Europe, Australia, and the US, capturing moments of reflection amid constant movement.

Underneath builds on the guitar-driven foundation of Floodlights' previous albums while introducing new elements, like synthesizer textures on 'Cloud Away' and piano accents on 'The Light Won't Shine Forever'. The vocals alternate between Louis Parsons' spoken-style delivery and Sarah Hellyer's harmonies, which blend throughout the tracks.

Each song is carefully structured, allowing emotional shifts to unfold. There's the contemplative build of ‘The Light Won’t Shine Forever’ or the sparse, harmonica-driven ‘Suburbia.’

Thematically, Underneath weaves together societal observations and personal insights. Songs like 'This Island' and 'Melancholy Cave' examine collective identity and our complex relationships with public figures, while 'Horses Will Run' and 'Buoyant' explore family heritage and shifting perspectives that come with aging. The result is a powerful and emotionally resonant album, revealing the depth beneath the surface of everyday moments.
