One of the founding members of influential English group Portishead, Geoff Barrow has had an extraordinary and influencial career. While inspiring many others with his musical approach, Barrow has remained restlessly creative, working with a wide range of artists and producing everthing from gothic post-punk to sci-fi synth soundtracks, soul, and heavy sample-based hip hop. Beak> formed with friends Billy Fuller and Matt Williams, is one of Barrow's more recent projects, dedicated to sharing a passion for motorik rock sounds of 70s artists such as Can. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2010, the result of strict recording sessions over 12 days with no overdubs. This second album develops the band's interest in experimental, textured rock styles. Synthesizers feature more prominently this time on the ten new tracks.
