Featuring Sophie Marcheff (guitar), Rose Gonzalez (guitar), Steve Hornby (bass) and Amy Lynch (accordion) and special guests Sweet Coco.
Sophie Marcheff & friends perform works by Brazilian plucked string virtuoso Anibal Augusto Sardinha, or, Garoto (‘The Kid’) (1915-1955) and composer Radamés Gnattali (1906-1988).
Pieces include Garoto’s solo tunes arranged for guitar and double bass, Gnattali’s love letter to Brazilian popular music Suite Retratos and ensemble works by the two composers yet to be performed in Australia.
This program reflects Gnattali’s dual involvement in classical and popular music and Garoto’s wild virtuosity and lush harmonies. At the heart of it all is choro music with its lively rhythms and infectious energy.
