On Tuesday 24 September at 7pm, join us for a special broadcast of The Mission, live from the Triple R Performance Space, hosted by Daniel James and featuring guests Veronica Gorrie (author of award-winning memoir Black and Blue), Amanda Porter (associate professor of Criminology and Criminal Law at the University of Melbourne) and Jeremy King (principal lawyer and head of the Police Misconduct team at Robinson Gill).
They'll discuss the release of the new book When Cops Are Criminals, a powerful indictment of the criminal behaviour of police officers, and a call for institutional reform. The anthology - edited by Gorrie and featuring contributions from Porter and King - examines the widespread problem of police brutality and corruption from the perspectives of those who understand it in depth. Pulling together the accounts of survivors, campaigners, and academics, it explores different forms of criminal behaviour by police, the factors that contribute to it, the impact it has on victims, and the challenges of holding perpetrators accountable.
Following the discussion, in-person attendees can stick around for a Q&A with our guests.
Triple R subscribers and First Nations people, can head to Subscriber Giveaways for more details. Giveaway opens Monday 16 September at 6pm.
For those unable to attend, you can still tune in to the broadcast via FM, digital, online or with the Triple R app.
