Piano Day is an annual celebration of the piano, and all those who play it: all ages, all genres, in the community and on the stage. ARIA-nominated artist Nat Bartsch returns to The Jazzlab to celebrate Piano Day with fellow pianists Celeste Willoughby, Josh Hooke and Kym Alexandra Dillon.
These artists create shimmering music at the intersection of classical, composition and jazz, showcasing the breadth and colour of the instrument.
Celeste Willoughby is a pianist and composer driven by a passion for melody and the transportive nature of music. On her debut full-length album ‘Moving Mountains,’ released under her former name Edward, the composer weaves a narrative-driven musical journeys that fuse her love of classical piano with more contemporary influences, offering a candid view into the struggles and triumphs in self discovery through instrumental piano.
Kym Alexandra Dillon is an award-winning composer, pianist, and presenter currently based in Melbourne and Geelong. She is continuously engaged across a broad spectrum of genres and contexts, from contemporary classical composition, orchestration and arranging, through to jazz performance, accompanying, community choir leading and public speaking about music.
Josh Hooke is an award winning musician based in Melbourne, Australia. He performs regularly as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician throughout Australia, as well as in Europe and the UK. He has studied with a number of eminent pianists, including Ian Holtham, Imogen Cooper in London, as well as Paul Badura-Skoda in Vienna.
Nat Bartsch is a twice ARIA-nominated pianist, composer, producer and advocate. She is known for creating soothing, beautiful music that blends neoclassical composition with jazz harmony, improvisation and ethereal ambient effects. Her sound at the piano is distinctively gentle and warm, enriched by lyrical, ethereal melodies. Her music is played across the world by people from all walks of life, often in deeply personal moments: literally from the birthing suite, to the final hours before death.
This concert will raise funds for Schizy Inc, a Melbourne-based charity facilitating the expression of diverse mental health through the arts.
