Experience a transcendent blend of cultures and sounds with Barlines & Beyond, an ensemble that bridges the gap between Western improvisation and Indian classical music.

Featuring Indian slide guitarist Pandit Debasish Chakraborty, alongside Sam Evans on tabla, Stephen Magnusson on guitar and Rob Burke on saxophone, the ensemble incorporates dual guitars from different worlds—traditional Indian music and jazz improvisation—merging the rich, delicate and soulful melodies of India with the creative harmonic language of jazz.

Don’t miss their one-night-only Melbourne performance—a remarkable culmination of nearly a decade of cross-cultural collaboration and musical innovation.

Melbourne-based masters of contemporary, experimental music, Sunny Kim and Peter Knight, celebrate 15 years of collaboration, as they revisit their groundbreaking first project, Bright Splinters.

South Korean-born vocalist, composer and improviser Sunny Kim’s artistry is shaped by a deep exploration of culture, identity and connection through sound. With a vast range of influences from Bjork to Billie Holiday, Kim’s haunting, crystalline vocals are showcased on her six stunning albums—four of which have been nominated for Best Jazz Record at the Korean Music Awards.

Pioneering trumpeter and composer, Peter Knight is celebrated for his innovative approach that blends acoustic preparations with electroacoustic processing. From his ten-year stint as Artistic Director of the Australian Art Orchestra, to his leading collaborations such as Hand to Earth, Knight continues to play a profoundly influential role in the Australian contemporary music scene.

Joined by guitarist Theo Carbo and renowned Canadian drummer Dylan van der Schyff, don’t miss the chance to witness this unique and boundary-pushing creative synergy in action.
