The International Pop Underground: Sega Bodega on Sin, Dreaming, Learning to Sing & Collaborating with Björk

Sega Bodega's third album is called Dennis.

No, like, really.

It seems like a banal, almost comical title, but ask the 32-year-old Irish/Chilean producer —real name Salvador Navarrete— about it, and you discover that the name Dennis is rich with thematic resonance.

It summons the God Dionysus, keeping with Navarrete's history of drawing on mythology and religion in his songs. Further to that, it spells 'sinned' backwards.

And, it also evokes the phenomenon of Dennis The Menace: a comic created by two different artists in two different countries simultaneously, thus illustrating ideas of the collective unconscious and the universal wellspring of ideas.

Speaking to The International Pop Underground's Anthony Carew from his home in Paris, Navarrete discusses Dennis, dreaming, albums as narratives, hating London, getting used to his singing voice, and collaborating with people like Caroline Polachek, Eartheater and Björk.
